Engineer Salem Ali Basamer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of YASPC, stated that the port of Mukalla witnessed a remarkable improvement in its shipping and commercial activity during the past year 2020 compared to the year 2019 , as the statistics data showed an increase in the movement of goods by ships in 2020 with a total of (1,900,539) tons compared to the year 2019 (1,551,919) tons, and an increase in the movement of petroleum derivatives (gasoil, gasoline and fuel oil) by a total (895,793) metric tons compared to the year 2019 (656,352) metric tons, and an increase in ship-shipped goods with a total (69,029) tons compared to the year 2019 (47,157) tons, while the total Containers handled in different sizes at the port (56,729) containers, compared to (42,751) containers in 2019.


The Chairman of the Corporation’s Board of Directors stated that the port of Mukalla suffered from many challenges during the year 2020, most notably the presence of competing ports in the region and the limited carrying capacity of the port and the problem of tugs boat, but he overlooked them according to the limited capabilities by importing new loading and unloading mechanisms with self-financing and carrying out temporary maintenance work for the only tug boat In the port, by self-efforts by the corporation's engineers and technicians.


Eng. Basamer praised the role of the Ministry of Transport and the local authority in the governorate in providing possible support, praising the efforts and dedication of the employees and workers of the corporation in their work during the year 2020.
Experts and specialists in port affairs see the need for the competent authorities in the state to pay attention to developing and improving the port of Mukalla by creating new berths and yards and supplying various mechanisms and equipment, the most important of which is a modern tug boat , as the port of Mukalla is witnessing a large shipping movement in receiving various ships that exceeds its capacity and supply capacity, but he was able to It keeps pace with the pressure of steamship traffic as it becomes the second port in the country.
