PORT DESCRIPTION
Location: Mukalla is located halfway along Yemen's southern coastline, approx 270nm E of Aden.
General overview: Khalf Harbour lies 2km to the E of the town at Mukalla. It is W of Pas Kodar In the bay between Ras Burum
and Ras Koder/Ras Marbet and below Jebel Al Qara, which protects Mukalla from the NE monsoon between Oct-May. Mukalla has
2 cargo berths and a fisheries quay.
A new slipway and fishing boat Jetty are being built in the NE corner of the harbour.
Major commodities; Foodstuffs, cement, oilfield equipment, dums of dt etc and general cargo.
Load Line zone: Arabian Sea Seasonal Troplcai Area, Tropical Sep 1 to May 31, Summer Jun 1 loAug31.

ETA's: Notify ETA 24 hours prior to arrival. Message to include Master's name, shrp nationalrty, calteign, grt, dwt, max draft, type of cargo, reason for call and, most importantly, any dangerous cargo on board.
Documentation required:
Vessels are to have valid statutory certrficates on board. Crew List and Crew Declaration are required-

Health regulations:
Healthy cargo vessels are grantee pratique, by the pilot, when entering.
Customs and immigration: Customs and Immigration officials board vessels calling at the port on arrival and departure.
Flags:
Vessel's are required to fly their national flag, signal letters and courtesy ensign

Normal procedure observed at other ports and In accordance with the charter party.

Are provided to the Master, by the pilot and vessel's agent, when entering the port.

Port limits:
The port limits are on a line 2,5nm due W of Ras Marbet, thence due N to the coast.
Sea buoys, fairways and channels:
The harbour entrance, betwe
en breakwaters to the S and N, has a width of 105m and depth 10.0m below CD. A turning area has a diameter of 240m.
Pilot:
Pilotage is compulsory for ships over 200grt, it is carried out mainly during daylight hours,

the SW monsoon and sea between Jun-Sep, 1100-1900hre.

Cargo may be handled all year and worked throughout 24 hours if required, inside Khalf Harbour.

There is a Voith Schneider lug, of 2,000hp, based at Mukalla.
Coast guard:
The Coast Guard service Is operated by the harbour police.

Names/Nos: Cargo vessels up to 10,000dwt, LOA 145m, draft 8.5m can normally be berthed at Mukalla. Larger vessels can only be berthed by special arrangement with Ihe port authority.

A buoy berth to the S of Khatf Harbour is available, with pipeline to storage tanks ashore.
No 1 alongside berth is a combined dry cargo/tanker berth with connections to storage tanks.
Facilities: Containers of 6.0m and 12,Om can be handled by ship's gear and by a shore crane (50t capacity).
Mukalla operates a 42t Kalmar FLT for container handling and other cargoes.
Storage: Cargo storage Facilities (sheds and open land) available at the port, but most cargo is moved by direct delivery to trucks and leaves the harbour area Immediately.
Barges: Vessels can anchor at the roadstead, 0,8km offshore In depths of 10-20m, where unloading can be carried out by barge.
Ballast/slop reception:
Not available.
Security:
The harbour Is regularly patrolled by the harbour police. The harbour tug is capable of combating fire onboard ships, fire engines are stationed approx 3km from the port.
